Space the Final Frontier

Space.com has an article about a piece of space just that is expected to hit the moon next year. The space just is believed to be a “Saturn IVB upper stage from the Apollo 12 mission that flew in November 1969.” Scientists want to use seismometers that were placed on the moon during the Apollo mission to conduct experiments on the Moon’s makeup. The only problem is that the seismometers were turned off in 1977, so they need to figure out if it is even possible to turn them back on after 25 years.

Did you know that Earth has two moons? I didn’t. Apparently, the Earth may have three. The second moon is called Cruithne, it has a diameter of 3 miles, is considered a Trojan asteroid, and has a horseshoe orbit around the Earth that takes 770 years to complete. The new moon is currently called J002E3 because there is ongoing debate to determine whether it is a moon or space junk.

And finally, do you want to take Lance Bass’ place and go into space? If so, Pepsi is expected to hold a contest in the near future where you can win a seat to visit the International Space Station. Pepsi is expected to spend $35 million on the campaign.
