The President has authorized General Petraeus’ request for more troops for Iraq, but some are suggesting that we encourage the enemy.

The President of the United States is the Commander and Chief of the U.S. Military. This means that he has full authority to send troops into any part of the world that is necessary in order to protect the interests of the United States. Now of course he is also working with complete support of the United Nations through several UN resolutions with regard to our efforts to free the Iraqi people and in doing so, stabilize the Middle East. Or at least leave it more stabilized than we found it.

Now we can have all kinds of debate as to whether or not each of you thinks we should be in Iraq. The primary reason we are there is to free a people and protect U.S. interests. We did NOT do it for oil…I mean, just how much oil have we received from this effort? ZERO! Now we are up against factions in Iraq that are fighting this effort of ours to turn over the full control of the country back to the Iraqi people. We want to leave Iraq, but we can ONLY accept complete victory in this effort. Defeat is NOT an option.

So for this reason, and to effectively stop the violence in Iraq and get the heck out, we need additional troops for a short time longer. And the President in his legal authority has granted the request of the U.S. commander on the ground in Iraq, General Petraeus, and we are sending these troops. But do you think we should at the same time give comfort and support to the enemy over there? Some in this country DO.

Many in the Democrat party, though they voted for the war in the first place, now believe that we need to pull out. If we pull out now, we will not achieve that complete victory in the region. These Democrats are proposing a non-binding resolution in the Senate that criticizes the commitment of these additional troops. In fact some have even proposed that we not fund these troops. In what way is this supporting our troops? “Oh, you can co fight for your country and for the freedom of the Iraqi people but we will not authorize your payment.”

But let’s get back to this non-binding resolution. If this passes in the Senate, it will not really DO anything. It only tells the rest of the world that we are loosing interest in finishing the job in Iraq. It is my opinion that the enemy would love nothing more than to see this happen. If we fail to support our troops in this effort, we are instead supporting the enemy. And if I remember my history correctly, giving aid and comfort to the enemy is one of the characteristics of treason. Yes, treason!

So as many of you know i am a Conservative Republican and believe in personal responsibility and that we do not dumb down the rest of the country to the lowest denominator but that we instead raise up the highest level of excellence. We applaud rugged individualism and appreciate those willing to take risks for the larger whole. I love and support our troops. If you ask many of them they will tell you that they are glad to be there doing the job they are doing, and in fact, many have renewed their tour of duty in the danger zone. And I honor those who have given their all in the ultimate sacrifice for this country. There are LOTS of great things our troops have done over there but you only hear the bad in the main-stream press. (The old press adage states that “if it don’t bleed, it don’t read” so the press tends to only report bad news and not good.)

Having said that, I will tell you that if any of our Republicans representing me in Congress and in the Senate, (and of course the Democrats), support this non-binding resolution, I will no longer support them. I will not vote for ANYONE who gives aid and comfort to the enemy, and in doing so, encouraging the enemy toward further violence against our troops…that is what this non-binding resolution would effectively do.

Now if you are of a same mind as me, I will encourage you to also sign the petition and join me in voicing our concern, and supporting our troops who risk it all to the cause of liberty. You can sign the petition here at The NRSC Pledge. And I would also ask you to become active and pass this on to your friends.

Look, we ALL want our troops home, but they like I will only accept total victory, no matter how long that takes. A commanding General on the ground in Iraq believes that more troops is essential to this and I have to believe him. And I also support our President, Commander and Chief of the U.S. military in these efforts. They have all of the information that you and I don’t have. And by the way, I learned this not only from my own military experiences but from my brother, a Major in the Army, who has been there and tells me the real truth about our efforts. Please support our troops, and the cause of freedom. Thanks!
